Cerouse
What Players Know
Section titled “What Players Know”Cerouse the Hydromancer rules Caerulith, the mobile water-city of the Folly Kin Ondari, and her word is the city’s law. The party met her as a jailer: she boarded their outpost demanding to know if they served Sypha Ignis, then held them for harboring the fugitives Captain Sai and Navani until Dax bargained a trade, retrieve a magical mirror from a ruined spire and everyone goes free. Her guard Verso, who vouched for the party, is also her son.
She carries eight hundred years of history with Wizard’s Folly. By her telling, Sypha’s ascension ritual against Edmeera was sabotaged by Sypha’s own partner, Velleyanna Morgrove the Betrayer, coerced through her daughter, and the catastrophe that followed made the Folly. Cerouse sought the mirror to find Velleyanna, who she believes still lives.
In the end she softened. She released the party from the retrieval, formally ceded the mirror to them, and offered an alliance to heal the Folly’s long war, a work she says Sypha refuses to attempt. Mid-offer, Vesperine Noirmont of the Eldon Order drove a Necrovoid blade into her back and sent a frozen Ezra running for the city’s Heart-crystal. Cerouse’s dying flood crushed both assassins, but the wound left her voiceless and failing; when the party last saw her, her life was measured in moments.
