Session 5
Enoki and Ember travel back to the mountain train station, making a quick stop at a Paper Birds store. These are scattered throughout Volaris to send messages through magical birds made of paper. Enoki stays outside to look out and be on guard for the judges. Unfortunately Enoki becomes distracted by an annoying walking sales creature trying to sell their goods.
Ember talks to a Paper Bird worker by the name of Carci Ombin. She is a female gnome, having light skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. Carci explains the details of getting a letter to someone via their express service. Ember, pays for the services and writes the letter in thieves cant to avoid prying eyes and signs it with her fire flower. Handing the letter to Carci, Ember asks if there is a guarantee the letter will get to the recipient, to which Carci replies, “It always gets there.” Moments later, with the envelope in hand, Carci focuses and the envelope begins to float. The words, “Verba volantia”, are spoken, causing the envelope to explode. From the explosion, a life-like paper bird emerges, heads up a vent and flies to Neverspire.
Ember heads out to meet up with Enoki but notices something is off. Unable to locate the source due to that annoying walking sales creature heading towards them, they make haste to avoid the creature and head towards the train station. They both buy standard tickets back to Neverspire and board the train.
Meanwhile, Victor pops his head into the sewage pipe to see what has happened since he’d been gone. Not much had happened according to Aydriann as he awoke. Gears fall to the floor in a display of chaotic genius. The two chat for a bit which leads to the question about Victor’s armor. Aydriann was curious about Victor’s armor and why he was wearing it. Victor explains he wears it for protection when making deliveries. Aydrian asks if he can paint a “Leave them be” symbol on an arm to help with protection. Victor is suspicious of this criminal language but isn’t able to recall any information about the symbol.
A bird comes zooming towards Aydriann. A paper bird that Ember wrote and sent via the service, explodes into a letter detailing information that Ember and Enoki had uncovered during their recon trip.
Ember said there was a lot of interest in the train. The judges, the syndicate and Morstar all seemed to be connected in some way. Aydriann steps outside, telling Victor to not touch anything, lest you want to find yourself at the end of a blade. Aydriann contacts his Criminal contact, Venoxyin, a Dhampir, with the use of his tinkering. A tiny little dragon flies, wound up to travel the distance needed, thrown up in a certain direction, and lands in the location needed to signal the person being requested. Moments later Aydriann is summoned to a shadowy part of ruin where Venoxyin waits.
Aydriann asks her to find out what is the syndicate’s involvement in the hills and mountain district. To Venoxyin’s reply, they are involved in a lot of things. Aydriann asks if his standing with the unwoven hand would have any meaning with the Syndicate. Venoxyin replied saying his standing with the unwoven hand would mean shit. Aydriann expresses the concern of the syndicate’s and judge’s involvement with the train as this means bad business for the job they are about to partake in. He wants more information and wants it by 8:00. Venoxying agrees and heads off. Aydriann comes back to the sewage pipe where Victor is making some bakery treats for the long road ahead. Ember and Enoki soon arrive as well and they all discuss a plan for the upcoming job.
After much to plan and discuss, they head off to the mountains. Not before eating Victor’s lovely treats, brownies, which gives everyone a boost in constitution. Getting to the hiking trail that leads up to the spot where the train will be at 9:00, proves to be uneventful. Victor and Enoki take a standard class train ride while Ember and Aydriann take steerage.
While on the trail, birds flutter from within the forest, an hour before they reach their destination. Aydriann tells everyone to head down the trail while he makes a quick stop. They all listen as Aydriann heads into the dark woods where Venoxyin is. Venoxyin tells Aydriann she has a job for him. The train car that they are to rob is the Syndicate’s. The client for this job was a book off the train car for 400 gold pieces. Aydriann wants to counter the offer by adding the special gem he requires and sends Venoxyin off. This new information is shared with Ember as they head to the spot of the heist.
At 8:00pm, the group makes it to the train tunnel where the train is supposed to be at 9:00pm. Scouting around, Aydriann spots a cabin down away from the train tunnel along the tracks. Ember and Aydriann head towards the cabin in a stealthy fashion.
