Session 21
Victor, “This is Rebirth, not the best part of town.”
Another voice from the shadows, “You got that right.” A figure emerges, “You need some proper protection. Me and my cohort are in that business and we would be happy to escort you for thirty gold pieces…”
Ember, “I care about his sister, that young girl shouldn’t be in that prison. A young girl who just survived an awful illness.”
Aydriann, “It’s not my problem.”
Ember, “Then I’m making it mine.”
Aydriann, “Then I guess I’m helping you. Because you’re my problem.”
A long day, something that has become common in the past days, with Morstar on the loose and Venoxying missing. A strange creature communicating the meaning of three coins left on a train and leaden blood. A distillery left in shambles and a father missing. Aydriann heads out to the middle of the crater to target practice to let out steam. Ember comes out of the pipe and tells the group that Morstar was a bust as he thinks Aydriann and Venoxyin killed her sister. She asks about Venoxyin and Aydriann lets her know that she is missing again. Ember expresses concern that Aydriann isn’t taking the situation seriously and calls on Preslynn to meet. Before Preslynn arrives Victor decides to head home and invites everyone to come to Illumine Circus with him and his sister to seek out a fate teller to try and answer some questions about the two essences.
Preslynn shows up and Ember asks her if she had seen Venoxyin. Preslynn says no and asks why Ember would think she would be in trouble. Preslynn points out the crime network had a story of Catelyn being killed by the judges, as collateral damage, which isn’t what Morstar saw. She points out that lies are being spread throughout the criminal network through a contact somehow. Ember says Morstar is being manipulated to think Venoxyin and Aydriann killed his sister. Preslynn says she is going to look into this if Ember is ok with it which she replies to be careful.
Ember and Aydriann discuss a theory that Morstar was set on them because of another creature unknown, possibly Vossler. Aydriann says to stop focusing on Morstar and focus on Vossler. Ember doesn’t agree completely as Morstar will be a problem and also wants to help his sister. Aydriann goes along.
Victor gets approached by bandits and is able to get away by agreeing to pay for “protection”. He meets up with his sister at the train station near Fuegan Reflection and they discuss things like their father and how Victor has been dealing with everything.
The next day everyone meets up at Illumine Circus. An old lady approaches the group which is later revealed to be Rain. She wants to tag along and explains some parts of the circus that would cause them to spirit walk. That is magic duels that end with death held by the Eldon Order. They don’t like them.
The group proceeds to the Circus with Melina and Rain but is interrupted with Preslynn approaching Ember. Ember and Preslynn discuss Venoxyin being alive, that she was being hunted but the hunter had stopped. Preslynn reveals a wound and says she was digging around to find out more information about why Venoxyin would be targeted and had gotten too close to something. Then asks the question: what does Venoxyin know that would get her in trouble? Preslynn is requested by Aydriann to find her and get her back to Ember and Aydriann home which she agrees as she also means to ask her who she talked to about the book.
Preslynn flies off and the group proceeds into the circus. Walking to one of the announcement boards, they locate their query and head to the tent where the Fate Teller, Darius Mahdas Zaaq is located. Upon finding him, they see he is a fire Genesi, as he takes notice of Ember. Victor requests a fate telling to try and answer why there are two essences conflicting within him. Darius deals out 10 cards: King of Pentacles R (query), The Star (block), The Knight of Wands(Conscious), The two of Cups R (Past), the Emperor R (Subconscious), Six of Swords(Future), Queen of wands R (Bottom), Eight of cups(Bottom Mid), The Hierophant R (Top Mid), High Priestess(Top). The read from the cards, “The stars blocks your path to fulfillment, Lesoleil will help you in your path, Severed is the relationship with your father, the root of the problem is your father, bring a curse, you travel by air in your adventures, you mother has a disdain for your father, the burden you carry for your family is great, the old ways will be what helps you in guiding you to the answers, be careful as things of old will bring things not sought after. A priestess in red, though beautiful on the outside, inside a ugly fiend, will meet you in the lake of oblivion, where Noite awaits.”
After the reading payments are requested but one last card reading is requested by Aydriann. He asks for only one card, which Darius pulls the Four of swords reversed, to which he reads, “You will be met by your brother Corsten, who also seeks you but is also seeking something else to be cautious about.” Melina is already leaving with Victor at this point but Rain is having a conversation telepathically with Ember.
Ember brings up Rain’s interest in the spirit element, part of the 5 elements of the fate teller’s start. Rain explains that it was very convincing, that the spirit seemed real. Ember then asks what Rain wants to do which Rain is surprised. Ember asks if she wants to check out the magical duels which Rain says no. She explains their dislike for the ones that end in death. She tells Ember about the Magical duel happening today that has two powerful mages, Ezra(Tiefling touched by ) and Keyvath (Moon Elf). They love each other but in order for entry into the Eldon Order, they must prove themselves and fight to the death, the victor gains entry. They have shown up today and are committed to this end. Ember tells Rain we should do something and Rain says ok and leads Ember to the duel.
Aydriann gets in contact with a criminal contact. Aydriann wants to find out anything about his big brother Corsten
Ember quickly asks if Melina and Victor got what they wanted from the fate teller. Victor replies yes and needs to find out more about Lesoleil. Melina explains about the sun warrior defeating the winter herald. Everyone then follows Rain to the main focal point of the circus, the narrow pyramid, where a large has formed around a large stage and two mages stand at the ready. An announcer explains to the crowd about the duel and what’s at stake. Rain explains that the two mages, Ezra and Keyvath, used to hate each other but would walk by Rain often with loud thoughts. Slowly they changed and began loving each other. Ember asks why Rain does nothing to stop this and Rain explains they can’t but decides that they can do and should do something.
