Session 99

07/25/2025

  • Dax began to act strange. Without warning, he lashed out. Dark fire erupted in the tight corridor, Malice magic roaring through the air and washing over friends who just a moment ago would have trusted Dax with their lives.
  • Peach and Orianna were the first to realize the magic. They both knew what this magic was as it was dark and frighteningly familiar.
  • As chaos erupted, the party leapt into action. Mack couldn’t bring herself to fight back and hurt her friend. This didn’t matter how dire things looked.
  • Spells and words. The group’s desperate pleas filled the air as the group battled against the sinister presence that had taken hold of him.
  • The group was able to bring Dax back from his dark possession.
  • Dax, a bit shaken, wondered if abandoning the pit’s creatures had been their mistake…if guilt had let Gardhu slip inside, as Gardhu’s voice taunted, “You left the door open.”
  • The group returned to the pit, peering into the darkness below.
  • Twenty-three beings were in the pit, who huddled in fear as the group approached them. A female Qirvani found the courage to climb, clinging to the cage above, and revealed the truth. A monster with pincer claws was snatching victims, prey on them one by one
  • Aydriann and Ember struggled with the dilemma. Should they risk everything to save strangers, or leave them to their doom? None of the strangers were from the Dark World.
  • Pragmatism clashed with conscience. The debate grew heated, but the truth emerged. Freeing the captives might be as dangerous as leaving them.
  • Aydriann reached out to Seryna for guidance. Seryna hinted at a plan using “No Magikae,” but when pressed, she turned the question on Orianna.
  • Orianna, resolute, chose hope. She would try to save them. That decision was enough.
  • The party disarmed the trap and opened the cage. The lost made their way toward the surface.
  • Rest and reflection hardened the group’s resolve. Something monstrous had been taking the pit’s captives…a cunning predator.
  • The party planned and decided that Dax would don the guise of a Gharvok which had worked previously.
  • This act of deception worked. While the others prepared an ambush, Dax confronted Threxavor the Vhorazk, feigning alliance by lying about hungering for the spirits of the slain.
  • Through clever words, Dax won more than time. He pried from Threxavor both the location of Velmorith and the key to the throne room.
  • Dax also learned Threxavor’s true intentions: betrayal, should anyone assist him.
  • The party struck first, refusing to let a knife remain at their backs.
