Session 31
A large dining area with three black iron chandeliers, each with candles lit. As you file into a room with a long table able to seat 50 creatures. Several pillars are placed along the edges of the room with alcoves in between each depicting wars and violence. Sunlight comes in from the ceiling though the source is unknown. The table has been prepared for more creatures than the present with food and drink.
While sitting around the large table, all the creatures who showed up started eating and drinking the feast provided. Baltir, also known as the Red King, begins to talk about information in order to locate Funterra de Lopez Cantel and his Daughter, Lorena Cantel who went missing a few days ago according to reports. Baltir would go on to explain that the guards had searched door to door within cavern city to locate Funterra and Lorena but would come up with no leads. Baltir would explain that he believes that Lorena and Funterra were captured and taken into the dangerous Daldaryan Mines based on the account of a guard by the name of Altan.
It seemed apparent that Baltir was drinking excessively towards the end of the meeting with the three groups who had gathered to find Lorena and Funterra for the reward of an airship. The Familia Renacida stayed
If found, Baltir will give an airship called the Dauntless Crew of 30 including captain conscripted for 1 year. The airship can fit up to 20 creatures other than the crew.
The group learns that Devaron is another continent that has five guilds warring for years. The red king was a part of the Ephelon Empire. Melina, Preslynn and Venoxyin leave to research more about this Red King and the Dauntless to see if the war may have carried over to the ship.
A guard, Altan , explains that a cloaked individual humanoid went into the mines with both wife and daughter. When talking to Altan, he seemed anxious. As the group leave to go search for the missing wife and child, a dwarf from one of the groups, asks about what they look like. Funterra, the wife, has light brown skin, dark black hair and green eyes, human 38 years. Lorena, the daughter, looks similar and is 18 years old.
The group decide to stay and ask questions and search for clues in the red keep. They head to Funterra’s bedroom where they find a journal with pages torn out of it. The pages left describe Baltir becoming depressed because of the war and is haunted by the past. Baltir devises a plan to run to Volaris and start a new link with new identities. Alary steals a dress and gloves and boots while in the bedroom.
Peach and Orianna talk to Altan while the others invest in Lorena’s bedroom. They find out that he is a new guard who was hired a couple of weeks ago. He says that security has been increased since the kidnapping. After a few more questioning, Altan asks them if they will do the right thing if they find them, to which he tells them about an aux door.
Qadas mo Kuquah, another guard, not as helpful gets ask questions by Alary, he is a Kairlae
The group goes to the mines and sees that the other groups have been there. The Aux door doesn’t seem to have been moved, there is debris intentionally put there
The Puzzle — Corpselight Moth Cavern
Section titled “The Puzzle — Corpselight Moth Cavern”Beyond the aux door, the group enters the Corpselight Moth Cavern and finds three marble statues guarding three alcoves — the Courage, Fear, and Folly puzzle. Unscrambling the statue names to Courage / Fear / Folly rotates the lion statue and reveals a secret door to the house beyond. (Full mechanics, hint DCs, and solution live in Corpselight Moth Cavern.)
The House
Section titled “The House”Amidst the rugged landscape, nestled within the embrace of towering cliffs inside this large cavernous area, there’s a dark and forlorn one-story house. Weathered stones and crumbling walls seem to meld seamlessly with the rocky cliffs. Windows boarded up, weeds and vines claim the outer walls that intertwine with the stone in a tangle of greenery. The roof sags, damaged from moisture.
Inside, a room with a kitchen and table. At this table, in the dim light, a female creature sits with her back towards you. The creature looks unbathed in days, hair matted, hanging down from her head. She speaks: “Lorena, is that you?”
- Funterra — the wife, who suffered injuries a few nights ago at the hand of Baltir. She has lost her vision in one eye and limbs.
- Lorena — the daughter, who helped Funterra escape that night of horror.
Bittersweet reward. If the players tell the truth (ask for a Persuasion check), Baltir kills himself; if they lie (Deception), Baltir lives.
The airship. Baltir gifts them the airship The Dauntless — a crew of 30 under captain Bertolt Van Havenblight. The ship has a main deck, a mid deck for food, a lower deck for sleeping quarters, and a cargo bay for storage; the engine can be seen from the mid deck down. (The party later renames her The Valiant.)
