The group struggled to bring Velmorith down as he relentlessly struck down members of the party. At last, he seemed to fall… but at the final moment, he transformed into an even more powerful form.

As the group fought to survive, Gardhu seized the moment to persuade Dax to let him back in and wield his power. Dax refused, telling him to go away. Peach fell, and Ember poured everything she had into healing to keep the group standing. Gardhu pressed again, but the answer was still no. At last, Velmorith succumbed to the group’s combined assault.

With Velmorith defeated, the group looted everything that wasn’t bolted down… or didn’t weigh two tons, like the golden throne. They discovered a hidden chamber filled with treasure, among which lay the Lute of Telemente. Dax claimed it and began to play, singing verses about each member of the party. As the performance reached its climax, the Lute compelled him to continue. One by one, its twenty-four strings snapped, lashing out at Dax. He played on until only three strings remained. When the string tied to Gardhu broke, it severed Gardhu’s hold. Though the backlash left Dax grievously wounded, his sacrifice destroyed Gardhu and saved both Haslen and Funetti.

With the Dark Spire finally emptied, the group prepared to rest. Xalphor and Seryna joined them, along with Rynza. The twenty-two survivors and the demon hound had escaped successfully, but Seryna revealed something had gone wrong… preventing Rynza from crossing over.
