Session 13
On top of a building in the precinct, Temples of the Primordial, the sun is in full swing, giving a nice balance between hot and cold. Two dead bodies lay before the heroes had a sword that ember picked up. With Syndicate wanting blood, the heroes decide to head to Muvara’s path. Ember has questions though and decides to ask Aydriann about his encounter with Cassara. Aydriann explains being a place of white, with his memories giving him away about him and Ember’s wrong doings. Both are concerned but Aydriann pushes it aside and says that Venoxyin can take care of herself. They also voice their confusion about the obsession with this book everyone wants.
Traveling through Ozz brings sights of inventors and interesting messes. The heroes eventually arrive in Muvara’s path with many Spiritwalker’s out today. All staring off into the distance except for one which is staring at the group. This familiar Spiritwalker is Rain from an early encounter and Aydriann asks if they can see Watts. Rain has a pause and asks who gave him that name, as it’s a name given to criminals. Aydriann says his friend means no harm and Rain agrees to help on the single fact that they helped with the Delic two weeks ago. Rain brings the heroes to a Spiritwalker by the name of Veivasa who was in the middle of a lecture.
After completing the lecture, Aydriann walks up and starts to ask questions about the dead one. Aydriann senses that Veivasa is being cryptic and not forthcoming about the information and starts to get aggressive with the questions. Veivasa would ask questions and then not be helpful to the heroes. He did answer a few questions.
- The Calaveras are priests and clerics of Xanthos. They are saviors of the tortured and would defend against those who sought pain and oppression on others. Events that would cause widespread death would be sought to disband as to avoid many deaths before due time. They would slay undead abominations and purify undead grounds. Most Calaveras tasks involved tending to the last wishes of the dying and providing burial services to those who died alone. They also set out to cure diseases and defend people from monsters so that folk did not die before their time. Common creatures who couldn’t afford burial costs would also be covered by the Calaveras.
- Xanthos welcomed those who laid down for their final rest and granted death to those who wished to escape vile torture, curses and diseases. Wrapped in black bandages, Xanthos has dark glowing blue eyes and wings of small skeletons that held swords of the fallen that were great in life. As a result of his deep respect for life and death, he held undead by choice in the uttermost contempt. Unfinished business undead was often turned a blind eye though. Xanthos would seek out the young creatures who died young to assist with the afterlife.
Aydriann leaves as the others follow. Shortly after though, Rain comes running towards them and hands Ember a note, saying that they seek the book of the dead. Rain turns and leaves. Ember follows shortly asking Rain about the book of the dead and Xanthos. Rain says she doesn’t know much except that they have heard rumors. The decision then turns into one of curiosity as Ember wants to know more about life and death. Rain explains and offers to take Ember on a “Walk” one time. Ember heads back to the group and then the group heads to Yllena’s light to talk to the followers of Xanthos, Calaveras.
They are cut short as a magical bulletin board, called the Scrypt, displays this:
“Mach technologies, founded by Manon Macheze, seeks to bring creatures closer together through faster and magical transport…”
The Screen switches from the Mach technologies logo to a regal purple blank screen that seems to portray a curtain waving in the wind. The word Breaking news displayed across.
“Breaking news from the observer. This morning the three suspects that were part of an investigation in regards to a train robbery were identified and found with the help of our awesome Volaris community.”
Breaking new fades as three pictures spread out on the screen. Victor, Enoki, and Aydriann real life pictures displayed
“Brought to question, we found out more as we got a chance to interview Vossler who was the lead investigator.”
The screen image transforms to a magical recording. A scene where two creatures standing close to each start to sit down on comfortable couches facing this magical recording. One creature is Vossler and the other is a Leonin with golden fur and lustrous mane that boosts volume, dressed in nice clothes. It seems they are being watched by a crowd as you can hear the audience in the magical recording.
“Vossler, we heard earlier today, you apprehended the three suspects thought to have information in regards to a horrific train robbery that left 20 dead.” Trathor
“I like this new product you’re putting in your hair, Trathor, you look stunning I must say.” Vossler
Recording focuses on Trathor for reaction then pans back to focus on Vossler
“Yes, thanks to the community, we were able to locate and question three individuals thought to have some connection to this gruesome crime. It didn’t take much for one of them to talk as Aydriann Gearwig, a criminal, volunteered information in our quest to seek out the source of this injustice. A criminal seeking justice. This gnome told us, with the help of a criminal contact, Venoxyin, they were given a job to locate a dwarf’s blade.” Vossler
The recording focuses on Trathor who explains to the audience what a dwarf’s blade is before focusing back to Vossler.
“They located one, which unfortunately happened to be my very own donation to the Kaicrumao to research creature blindness. Now this is a good example of how crime is affecting everyone in this city, including the afflicted.”
Recording focuses on audience reactions and then back to Vossler.
“Aydriann, seeker of justice, went on to explain that he and Venoxying gave this information to their employer, Morstar, a foreign assassin who wanted to sell the plant in the underground market for illicit business dealings. Unfortunately we were not able to apprehend this vile creature.”
The crowd lets out a disappointing sigh. Vossler turns to face the source of recording.
“Thank u Aydriann and Venoxyin for helping us track down this vile criminal. You have helped the Judges tremendously and have provided a good example that criminals can be rehabilitated. You can always talk to us.”
The magical screen faces back to the regal purple screen from before with the words Story Ongoing. Then fading to another random message. Aydriann climbs up to the Scrypt and punches it, destroying the magical image.
